Payroll Career: Why it’s my Choice

Karly Cossington and Melissa Mills are the youngest members of the Advo Payroll Team. Here they discuss what attracted to them to a career in Payroll.

  Karly Cossington, Advo Payroll Officer

Hi everyone, my name is Karly Cossington, a Payroll Officer at Advo.

My journey at Advo began as a Hub Administrator and I have always taken an interest in payroll, recognising its critical importance in ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time. This interest eventually led me to transition into my current role as a Payroll Officer, where I can apply my skills and passion to directly impact our client’s satisfaction.

I enjoy helping clients and solving problems, knowing that my work contributes to happy, stress-free clients is what motivates me every day. I believe in building genuine, collaborative relationships with each of our clients, taking the time to understand their individual needs. My goal is to ensure that every client feels valued and supported. If our clients are happy, I’m happy too!

When I’m not working, I enjoy going to the gym where I like staying active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I also cherish spending quality time with my family and friends, whether it’s a relaxed weekend at home or exploring new places together.

  Melissa Mills, Advo Payroll Officer

Hello, my name’s Melissa and I joined Advo 4 months ago as a Payroll Officer.

I previously worked at an organisation called Charities Aid Foundation, within the Give As You Earn team. In my previous role, I supported the processing of charitable donations made directly from employees’ salaries, helping to ensure funds were accurately allocated and sent to the right charities. While it wasn’t a payroll role, it gave me a solid understanding of how important accuracy, trust, and attention to detail are when working with people’s pay.

I was drawn to a career in payroll because I like work that’s detail-focused and people centred, and I enjoy knowing the work I do has a real impact. My previous role sparked that interest and joining Advo felt like the right step to turn it into a long-term career.

Since joining Advo, I’ve really enjoyed developing real payroll knowledge, skills, and experience. Looking ahead, I’m keen to keep learning, grow my technical knowledge and skillset, and take on more responsibility as I progress. My goal is to become a confident, reliable payroll professional who clients and colleagues can trust – and to continue growing with Advo as the business evolves.

During my free time I enjoy swimming, yoga, spending time with family, and seeing friends for our monthly games’ night. I also love trying new things and challenging myself, there is always a new goal I’m chasing.
